Migraine Daydreams, Vol. 2 [SGR 12.23 | Bedcrumb Show]

Not only was the migraine heavy during the live broadcast for this show, but one of the turntables seemed busted during setup. The cure? I plugged in the tape deck and pulled out my most ethereal cassettes & LPs with the intent of summoning the most healing frequencies these grooves & magnets could give me. The set starts with some sylvan modular electronics from M. Sage, who evokes an edenic natural paradise through electronic circuitry. We’ll also find some triumphant ether-jazz from Andrew Weathers, Arthur Russell’s hypnotic ambient pop, Elkorn’s pastoral jazz-folk and ecstatic minimalism from Terry Riley. Since I rarely bust out the tapes, I was stoked to finally share Michael Gross’ cassette of insectile psychedelia on air, as well as Nuke Watch’s synth & tabla experiments that sound like an alien-folk beat-tape. Closing the set was my favorite migraine medication, Laraaji’s “Connecting with the Inner Healer Through Music”, where his calming narrations and meditative pulses massage the brain in ways the most advanced pharmaceuticals just can’t live up to.
